What it means

Proof you know the rules. Nothing more, nothing less.

Customers don't know cottage food law — but they know what a badge means. Crosodo Certified tells them you studied your state's rules and passed a real assessment. Four modules:

Module 1
Your state's cottage food law

What's allowed, sales caps, where you can sell, registration. State-specific questions drawn from Crosodo's report library.

Module 2
Labeling

Required label elements, allergens, the home-kitchen statement, weight declarations — the stuff inspectors actually check.

Module 3
Food safety fundamentals

Potentially hazardous vs. shelf-stable foods, temperature control, cross-contamination. Knowledge, not a kitchen inspection.

Module 4
Selling legally

Direct vs. wholesale, the interstate shipping trap, farmers' market rules, record-keeping.

The honest part

This is a private knowledge credential — not a government license, not a kitchen inspection, not permission to sell. Every badge links to a verification page that says exactly that. We'd rather have a badge that means one true thing than a seal that implies five false ones.

How it works

Three steps to the badge

1
Study your state's rules

Your free Crosodo state report is the study guide. The exam's state module is drawn straight from the report library.

2
Pass the assessment

40 questions, 80% to pass, 60 minutes, open-book. We test comprehension, not memorization — and we say so openly.

3
Display the badge

Website badge, market-tent signage, and a verification page at crosodo.com/verify/your-ID that proves it's real. Plus a directory listing.

The caliber

This is not a five-question quiz.

Sample questions from the bank. The real exam randomizes 40 from 60+, weighted toward your state's law:

Which of these frostings is most likely to be restricted under cottage food law in many states?+

Cream cheese frosting — it's a potentially hazardous food. American buttercream is generally allowed; cream cheese usually isn't.

You bake in Ohio and want to ship cookies to a customer in Pennsylvania. What's the key legal question?+

Whether both states' laws cover the sale. Many cottage food laws apply to in-state direct sales only — interstate shipping can fall outside your home state's protection.

A customer asks if your kitchen is inspected because you display a food badge. What's the honest answer?+

Crosodo Certified confirms you passed a knowledge assessment — it's not an inspection or a license, and the verification page says so plainly.

Common questions

Is Crosodo Certified a government license?

+
No. It's a private third-party knowledge credential, like Certified Humane or Non-GMO Project. It proves you passed Crosodo's cottage food assessment. It doesn't replace any permit, registration, or license your state requires — and the badge and verification page say so explicitly.

Does the badge mean my kitchen was inspected?

+
No. The assessment tests knowledge, not facilities. The badge means you studied and passed — including your state's specific rules. Anyone who clicks the badge lands on a verification page that states exactly what the credential is and isn't.

How hard is the exam?

+
40 questions, 80% to pass, 60 minutes, open-book. The state-law module is weighted heaviest and pulls from Crosodo's report library — it's genuinely state-specific, which is what makes the badge meaningful.

How long does certification last?

+
Two years. Cottage food rules change, and a credential that never expires stops meaning anything. Renewal is a shorter re-assessment at a reduced fee.

When does the exam open?

+
It's open now. Take it from your dashboard — pick your state, get 40 randomized questions (60 minutes, open-book), and earn the badge at 80%.
