Pets in a Connecticut microbakery kitchen

Connecticut cottage-food operators are licensed and inspected. Pets in the kitchen during the inspection can fail you.

Cottage / exemption path

Conn. Gen. Stat. §21a-62a creates a licensed cottage-food path through DCP. The statute does not say “no pets in the home.” The inspection is where kitchen animals become a problem.

Inspected / home-bakery path

DCP inspects the residential kitchen. Inspectors apply food-establishment sanitation, including animals in the food-prep area.

Research note

This is not a dwelling-wide pet ban in statute. It is an inspected kitchen.
