Pets in a microbakery kitchen in Asotin County?

Washington cottage-food permits: only the permittee (and people they supervise) in the kitchen during processing. Pets are out during processing — not out of the house.

What the rule actually means

Cottage path first — then any inspected path

Cottage / exemption path

RCW 69.22. Only the cottage-food permittee and persons under their direct supervision may be in the kitchen during processing. That keeps pets and extra household traffic out of the kitchen while you work. It is not a dwelling-wide pet ban.

Inspected or home-bakery path

WSDA permits and inspects the cottage-food kitchen.

County or program note on file

WAC 16-149 restricts access to the permitted area during cottage food production. Pets must be excluded from the permitted area during food production and handling.

County file notes that quote RCW 69.22 are state baseline, not a county overlay.

RCW §69.22 · verified 2026-08-19
