Je Ne Sais Pain

An ineffable thing about good bread.

The story

About Je Ne Sais Pain

There's no single explanation for why one loaf works and another doesn't. The flour was the same. The hydration was the same. Yet the crumb is different, the crust is different, the way the bread sings as it cools is different. Je ne sais quoi for the bread-obsessed. Cream cotton, navy serif, unapologetic Frenchness.

The details

Materials, fit & care

Built to be worn hard and washed often — at the Saturday market, in the kitchen at 3am, and everywhere in between.

Materials
100% heavyweight cotton

Comfort Colors 1717 (6.1 oz garment-dyed) for the vintage hand-feel, or Bella+Canvas 3001 where a smoother print surface suits the design. Pre-shrunk and softer with every wash.

Fit
Unisex, true-to-size

A slightly relaxed unisex cut from S–3XL. Size up one for an oversized look. The garment-dyed cotton drapes rather than clings.

Printing
Water-based DTG inks

Direct-to-garment with food-contact-safe water-based inks, so the print breathes with the fabric instead of sitting on top of it. Bake in it — flour and butter wash out cold.

Care
Wash cold, hang or low-tumble

Turn inside out, machine wash cold, tumble dry low or hang to dry. No bleach, no ironing directly on the print. The color deepens slightly as the garment-dye settles.

A gift they'll actually wear

Unisex sizing makes it low-risk, and every order comes with our free Cottage Baker's Field Guide PDF — a 50-state cottage food law reference to print and tape to the kitchen wall.
